Brief Biographies of the Presenters

 

 

 Mr Jean-Francois BARIL – Senior Vice President, Sourcing and Procurement
 NOKIA

Jean-Francois Baril  

Jean-Francois Baril is the Senior Vice President, Sourcing and Procurement for Nokia Corporation, based in Espoo Finland. He joined Nokia Group on January 1999.
Prior to joining Nokia, Jean Francois was Director at Compaq, where he was leading the European Sourcing and Materials responsibilities based in Erskine, Scotland from 1994 to 1997. He then moved to Houston Texas from 1997 to 1999 as both Director, Corporate Procurement for the Mass Storage and Director Sourcing for Compaq Storage business unit.
Jean-François started his career in Sourcing and Procurement at Hewlett-Packard, Grenoble, France in 1984 where he held various

responsibilities including the worldwide leadership for Sourcing for the HP Personal Computer division between 1991 and 1994.
Other industrial experiences include two years on offshore platforms in West Africa with Schlumberger and one year at Commissariat a L’Energie Atomique in France as a Research Engineer.
Jean-Francois was Chairman of the Electronic Component Board for RosettaNet from 2002 to 2004. Jean-Francois has been nominated in January 2003 “Conseiller du Commerce Exterieur” by the French Minister of Commerce. Jean-Francois is also Board Member of NetOnNet company listed in Stockholm.

 

 

 Professor Alan Braithwaite – Cranfield University, School of Management

Professor Alan Braithwaite    

Alan is a Visiting Professor at Cranfield University in the UK. He is a regular speaker at conferences, and the author of many papers and articles.
At Cranfield he has specialised in support for a number of areas including executive education in supply chain and logistics, industry and special interest forums and specific research projects.
Most recently he has supported projects on Global Sourcing and Supply Chain Risk and Resilience. He has also authored an industry report on supply chain best practice in the Chemical Industry for the European body EPCA.
Alain founded his own company LCP to complement to his academic interests, to provide supply chain advisory services based on

innovative new analytical and design tools including Cost-to-Serve® and Time-to-Serve® that support identifying the value potential in supply chains. He has worked with more than 300 companies over the last 30 years – many on a global basis.
Alan holds an MSc in Business Administration from the London Business School and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Birmingham University. His early career was spent in the food industry with Lyons Maid Ice Cream and HJ Heinz, and in the furniture industry with Christie-Tyler.

 Bernard GRACIA – EIPM’s Director

   

In 1976, Bernard GRACIA collaborated in the launching of one of the first post-graduate programme in Purchasing in the world (M.A.I – Master Industrial Purchasing for the Bordeaux Business School).
As Director of this post-graduate programme, Bernard GRACIA developed M.A.I Diploma as a market standard in France.
As director of MAI (Master programme in Industrial Purchasing) in Bordeaux in the 80’s, Bernard developed an important network of Purchasing Managers and positioned the MAI Diploma as market standard in France
In 1990, he gathered companies such as Aerospatiale, Alcatel, Bull, Nokia, Pechiney, Philips and Renault associated with the European Union to found  the European Institute of Purchasing Management (EIPM).

As director of EIPM, heaunched the first MBA programme specialised in Purchasing Management in Europe on December 1991 and the first European Roundtable for Senior Executives in 1993.
Bernard GRACIA acts mainly in consulting strategy, training engineering for multinational companies such as DuPont, Alcan, Bayer, Volvo, …
He also gives courses and develops research activities for companies mainly on competences and excellence model.

 


 

 Dr. Peter LAURENCE – EIPM Director of Research

 

A seasoned Supply Chain professional, Peter has spent over 30 years at senior management level in industries ranging from telecommunications, consumer goods and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Special Advisor and Past Chairman of The Conference Board European Council on Global Supply Chain, Peter is actively promoting the role of supply chain management as a key value driver. He obtained his Masters Degree in Production Engineering at the University of Birmingham and was awarded a Doctorate from the University of Loughborough for his research into Materials Management simulation modelling.
Peter is a member of faculty at the European Institute of Purchasing Management, where he is Director of Research and Professor of

Supply Chain Management.


  

  Dr. UWE G SCHULTE - VP Global Supply Management Unilever

 
Dr Uwe Schulte

After PhD in Chemistry joined Lever Sunlicht as a development chemist in 1980.
1983-1985 worked in the UK as a research scientist.
1986-1987 responsible for product development at Lever, Germany.
1988-1990 head of production of washing powders and liquids.
1990- 1992 head of Product Development and QA in Lever Division, Brasil.
1993-1997 Buxtehude/Germany works manager of the Elida Gibbs Personal Care site.
1997-2000 European Supply Director Personal Wash and Skin.
2001 – 2004 Vice President Supply Management in HPC division.

Since August 2005 the role now extends across the whole Unilever (Foods and HPC) globally.
 

 
 Richard WILDING BSc PhD CEng Eur Ing FIET FCILT FHEA 
 
 

Professor of Supply Chain Risk Management
Cranfield School of Management
As Professor and Chair of Supply Chain Risk Management and Director of the Supply Chain Risk Forum at the Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Cranfield School of Management U.K., Richard works with European and International companies on logistics and supply chain projects in all sectors including pharmaceutical, retail, automotive, high technology, food drink and professional services to name a few. He is a highly acclaimed presenter and has published widely in the area of supply chain management.

Richard is both a European and Chartered Engineer, he is a chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and the Institute of Engineering and Technology(Manufacturing Division). He is a steering committee member of the Institute of Logistics Research Network, a global network of academics and practitioners involved in state-of-the-art logistics and supply chain research. He is also a Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport Directors Forum, a group limited to the top 120 Logistics and Supply Chain Directors from Europe. Richard is also a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy in recognition of his innovative approaches to teaching and course design.
Richard’s special areas of interest include the creation of collaborative business environments, reducing supply chain vulnerability and risk, time compression and techniques for aligning supply chains to maximise customer value and reduce cost.
