2006 WORLD MBA TOUR COVERAGE

Started in 1995, the World MBA Tour now visits over 50 cities in nearly 40 countries, working in partnership with leading national media in every location. This presents a unique opportunity for interested individuals to meet admissions officers and alumni of the world’s top business schools, and to discuss the next education and career steps.

In recognition of the reach that the annual event presents, the EIPM participated in the World MBA Tour this spring, covering different countries in Europe such as London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Rome, Lisbon, and Paris. Mr Werner Jost, the Business Development Manager represented the EIPM for the Frankfurt and Amsterdam tour, while Veronique for the rest of the destinations.

I had a chance to speak with Veronique Pernin, who represents the EIPM for a dazzling tour of London, Paris, Lisbon and Rome. Armed with our brochures, banners, catalogues and her characteristic winning smile, Vero took this opportunity to meet up with the participants of various European nationalities to understand their basic motivations for pursuing an MBA education.

When asked why they were looking for an MBA, participants stated various reasons:

Reasons for Interest in an MBA education:

Company Sponsorship:
“ My company wants to sponsor me for the MBA education as I have worked as a Business Intelligence Manager and will soon be promoted to work in a subsidiary in a foreign city for conducting our International Business there. The MBA will better enable me to run this International subsidiary.

Enhance Promotion & Recruitment Opportunity:
‘The company I am working for is a Government owned company which will soon be privatised. I think it is now a good moment to get a higher education partly to increase my chances of promotion in this company. And in all cases an MBA will enhance my CV should I need to move to another company.

Invisible Ceiling & Personal Growth:
“Purchasing Director, 45 years old, despite my wide experience I am thinking of getting a higher training as I currently face a barrier in my career. There is an obvious invisible ceiling and is difficult to get further promotion. Perhaps an MBA is a solution, especially an MBA with purchasing specialisation. It is also a personal decision to expand my knowledge to get a wider exposure. The MBA would contribute to my personal growth.”

Walking hand in hand: Our Alumni

Throughout her trip, Veronique was not alone but was often accompanied with our MBA Alumnis who were so gracious to take their own personal time to represent EIPM Executive MBA stand. Speaking with several of the Alumnis she was pleasantly surprised to see how supportive they were to help the EIPM and the MBA programme grow and gain recognition. The AMBA accreditation certainly helped in adding value to their MBA certificate.

In their own words, the Alumnis spoke about their personal experience,

“ The EIPM brings more in terms of personal achievement and a sense of accomplishment after 18 months.Throughout this period you witness the changes amongst the different personalities and you see the evolution and changes, you learn more about yourself during this period which you did not realise before. The team spirit amongst the participants also deepened and we felt a sense of connection with one another, and we often support each other during the exam and for the final project presentation.”

Experience on MBA World Tour: Our Alumni Jacco De Jong

Mr Jacco De Jong and Cees Morsch of ABN Amro were present at the MBA fair in Amsterdam together with Werner Jost, our Business development manager.

“In a bank, the title of MBA brings a sense of value and means something. People instantly assume that you are of a higher level of competence. If you can handle that you are ready for taking on executive positions. It is certainly useful during a job selection process as well. Reasons for doing an executive MBA at the EIPM include well, gaining multi-perspective views on procurement, tapping into the “Old Boy’s network”. You also gain soft skills, such as how you manage different behaviors, leadership which are very important and should not be overlooked.”
